Dear Legacy Academy Parents,
We are all getting settled in and it is so great to have your children back in our buildings! What a great start to a new school year. Thank you for entrusting your children to us. Please remember parents, you are welcome to call our office at (303) 646-2636 with any questions or concerns. If your student will be late or absent, please call the office or use the Absence form on our website by 8:30 am, if they will be late and need a hot lunch please make sure to note this on the absence form or notify the office if calling. We would love to help!
No School:
This month there is No School on Friday, September 04, 2020, and Monday, September 07, 2020.
Friendly Important Reminders:
Currently, parents are not allowed in the building except for the front entrance locked area for checking in or out students. If you are picking up a child early please make sure to arrive at the front window no later than 2:30 pm to retrieve your children per COVID-!9 mandates. We are unable to have volunteers at this time. We will adjust the volunteer requirements for this year when we know how long this will last. We love all our volunteers who help make our school such a unique and special place and we hope to see you soon!
Medical/Birth Certificates /Immunizations/Physicals/Medication:
Please scan and email birth certificates/Immunizations to tammy.acosta @legacyk8.org if you have not already provided them. If your student takes medications at school, please have medication in the proper container with the pharmacy label. You will also need to have the proper school form signed by you and your doctor. If your doctor has already given written permission on another form it can be attached to ours but it also requires a parent signature, this form can be found and printed off here. If you have a student who will require medication during the school day, please email catie.hayes@legacyk8.org to make arrangements to deliver medication and proper forms.
Carpool Reminders:
A few reminders regarding carpool traffic for mornings and afternoons. Over the years, we have brainstormed with the county, sheriff’s department, local residents, and a traffic consultant to put together the best plan for carpool. While we still have a few kinks to work out, we put these plans in place to keep you, your students, and our staff safe. We do ask that you read through these reminders and adhere to our carpool traffic flow.
We have attached an aerial view for reference.
-
- You may not turn LEFT INTO the Legacy parking lot. We utilized this option last year to alleviate traffic on Highway 86, but we cannot allow for a left-hand turn with this new carpool flow.
- You cannot turn LEFT OUT OF the parking lot. We do have a sign that states this as you exit the parking lot. Please understand that this is for your safety and others traveling along Legacy Circle.
- We cannot have any cars waiting to turn right onto Legacy Trail between our parking lot entrance and Legacy Trail. This creates congestion and the potential for an accident.
- We ask that all of those using Legacy Trail, please hug the shoulder while waiting in the carpool line to allow for through traffic.
- Please take note of the areas where students are not to load and unload.
- We need all students to exit the right side of the vehicle in both carpool lanes. This is for everyone’s safety. If your child cannot exit out of the right side of the vehicle, please let us know and we can suggest another option.
- We ask that all parents stay in the vehicle. With cars constantly moving, we don’t want anyone stepping into a through traffic lane.
- If your child needs to unload items from a trunk or bed of a truck, please pull forward as far as possible to accommodate this unloading. This will avoid accidents and make sure the carpool is running smoothly.
- Everyone must use their official carpool number/sign, (this means made in our office with the official Legacy Academy logo). If you do not have the official carpool sign, we will require you to come into the office with your driver’s license to retrieve your child(ren) at the end of the carpool once all children have exited the building due to COVID. This is for the safety of all children at Legacy Academy. Please call the office if you need a carpool number or additional numbers made up and give your number or you can email this information to joann.mcquigg@legacyk8.org. Carpool numbers will be sent home within a few days with your youngest child.
Permission to Walk:
Students must have an official “permission for walking home” form on file in the office to do so. You can find the form to download here. Please fill out and have your student/yourself return to the office.
Before and After Care:
Did you know that we have a Before and Aftercare program? Children can be dropped off at 6:30 am and can stay until 6:00 pm. Children must be pre-registered. This is a fee-based program. Please contact Ms. Mollie at mollie.holm@legacyk8.org or call (303) 912-5335.

After School Activities and Tutoring Suspended:
Due to specific mandates and cleaning schedules, all after school activities and tutoring are suspended at this time. The only exception is middle school co-ed cross country and middle school band. Please see the following information below. This exception is due to the fact that these are approved individual activities.
Scholastic Fencing Team:
In the past, we have worked with Scholastic Fencing League to create safe, fun, and challenging classes to keep students actively learning their fencing skills. Due to COVID-19, they are unable to come and teach at our school in person. They will have virtual classes that will begin September 9th and 14th taking place every 6 weeks through the 20/21 school year. If you are interested you can click here for their flyer.
Middle School:
As a reminder, middle school students need to have their PE uniforms no later than September 28th in order to prevent losing participation points. Starting Monday, August 31sr, students who do not have a PE uniform yet need to bring athletic shorts and a t-shirt (in blue, white, black, or grey color) to change out for PE.
Per the Legacy Academy dress code, the only hoodies allowed during school hours are approved Legacy Academy hoodies. Both PE uniforms and hoodies can be ordered from the online store here.
Please remind your students to bring a filled water bottle to school so they can stay well-hydrated!
Friday Dress of Choice/Uniform Information for fifth grade through middle school:
Middle School and fifth-grade students are able to wear jeans every Friday as long as they wear any Legacy Apparel top purchased through our website with our logo on it. Purchases can be made here, under our school name Legacy Academy. Zip-up/Hoodies alone are not acceptable as they must have a uniform shirt underneath.
Middle School Athletics:
Our Cross-Country season is underway, but it is not too late to join! If your middle-schooler is interested, please have them see Mrs. Kieca. All of the information you need to register can be found here.
There will be a MANDATORY meeting for parents of Cross Country runners on Tuesday, September 1st from 5:15-5:45 in the courtyard to directly south of the cafeteria. Patriot Day Observance:
Sadly, due to COVD-19, We will have to postpone our opportunity to honor all those who serve or have served our country in the armed services, firemen, and women, nurses, doctors, police officers, first responders, and teachers. Thank you for all of you who serve our great country in every way! We appreciate you!
Cafeteria Information:
School lunch menus can be viewed on our website under the lunch menu tab or here. You may also apply a payment to your child’s account at this link. All checks for lunch can be sent with your child’s name/teacher and written out to Elizabeth Food Service. If you have more than one child, please write each student’s name and teacher in the memo and how you would like the money allocated. We are asking if you send cash that you would send it in an envelope with your child’s first/last name and teacher’s name on it. Please remember, if you are running late and your student will arrive after 8:15, you need to call the office to order a hot lunch. Students are not allowed to purchase double lunches at this time. Students will be able to purchase ice cream on Fridays, but need one dollar in cash. The ice cream program will not start until a few weeks into school. Due to COVID, the salad bar has been suspended temporarily and microwaves will not be available.
Free & Reduced Lunch Applications:
The following link Food Services / Online Free and Reduced Lunch Application is where you can apply for the program. You will need your student I.D. to register so if you do not already have it you will need to call the office on the office (303) 646-2636 to request it via email from joann.mcquigg@legacyk8.org. If you have qualified for Free & reduced lunch in the 2019-2020 school year (within our district) you have thirty days from the start of school to re-apply so there is not a break in services.
