Dear Parents and Guardians,
It was so nice to get to know Legacy Academy students this fall. Also, it was nice meeting those of you over different school events and those I had the opportunity to meet during parent-teacher conferences. Our fall social skills group, “My Squad,” and fall anxiety group, “Go Easy on Me,” have come to a close. The students reported how much they enjoyed the group they attended and requested a winter lunch skills group.
I enjoy the students and look forward to offering a winter group starting around January (details to come as we are closer to starting). I also hope to provide a spring skills group.
There will be a “Kindness Matters” club starting in November, focusing on kindness, social-emotional strategies, and navigating life stressors. The club will have different fun activities and strategies to encourage and uplift the students. Throughout the school year, I have been offering the students quick check-ins as per students’ requests. They can request a check-in on their iPad app, drop their name in the “counselor box,” or request through their teachers. This check-in is a quick moment that is carefully set up, so it doesn’t interfere with any tests. The feedback I have received about the check-ins is that they help the students return to class and are more focused and present in their school work after the check-in. Many students and teachers have reported these quick check-ins and strategies with support make all the difference, so I plan to continue to offer this resource to the students.
Additionally, I have offered class discussions on kindness, emotion identification, respect, and gratitude, and I look forward to providing other supportive topics as the school year continues. I also have offered mini groups giving more specific needs and strategies more directly related to the individuals on that need.
I look forward to continuing support benefiting the student throughout the school year.
