Carpool Reminder

Dear Legacy Parents,

We would like to take a moment to revisit the carpool and traffic safety laws.

  • Please consider the safety of our school community.  It is your kid’s safety and the safety of the school staff that care for your kids on a daily basis that we are most concerned about.  We need your help by doing your part in carpool to help promote a safe environment for everyone. Your cooperation can ensure that our staff and students have a positive day at Legacy Academy.
  • No left turns are to be made out of the Legacy driveway.  A traffic sign has been posted to indicate this. Please note left turns out of the driveway are illegal but more importantly, turning right ensures the traffic out of the drive flows smoothly. Thank you for helping to keep our staff safe.
  • Please treat westbound turns as if it were a left turn lane. When heading westbound on Legacy Circle and making a left turn into the driveway, the staff will be directing traffic and will notify cars when it is safe to proceed into the driveway. We will work to keep westbound traffic flowing for the non-carpool vehicles.
  • Be aware the front driveway is a fire lane. When lining up for the afternoon carpool, be sure the drive is kept clear before carpool starts. The curb is marked red and fire lane signs posted. Keeping the fire lane clear while traffic is not flowing will ensure that emergency vehicles can get to the school if they are needed.
  • Legacy Circle has school zone speed limits posted.  Please obey the posted speeds and drive safely through the school zone.

Elbert County Sheriff’s department is working with us in order to effectively manage our carpool. They will continue to assist us on the law enforcement side of our traffic safety.  Thank you for your patience and consideration as we all work to ensure the safety of our school’s staff and students.

American Heart Association’s Kids Heart Challenge

The American Heart Association’s Kids Heart Challenge program starts next month.  This program is a great opportunity for your students to learn, serve and make a difference in fighting our nation’s #1 health crisis – heart diseases and stroke.

Here is what you’ll want to know!

    • Your kids will learn from 6 Heart Heroes:  the importance of moving more, adding color to their plates, staying away from tobacco – and new this year – how to be ready, be kind and help others.
    • Your kids will get to raise awareness and funds for the American Heart Association.  How?  By sharing what they are learning with the people who support them the most – either face-to-face or using technology tools like our APP, emails, and social media.
    • Your kids will earn rewards – the more they do, the more they will receive.

Pro-Tip:  download the app Kids Heart Challenge, or go to www.heart.org/KHC to sign-up! (INSTANTLY receive a wristband with a leadership message on kick-off day the next day!)

Conversation Prompt:  When your kids come home with their envelopes – ask them which Challenge they want to take (be prepared, be active, be kind) and discuss the benefits of each.  Also, discuss how heart disease and stroke affect your family and how you can work together to prevent it.

Great News!  As of Sept 1st, no one in Colorado will be able to purchase tobacco products until they are 21 years old. This will prevent thousands of high-school students from starting the habit and curb the high-school and middle-school Juul epidemic that grew 78% last school year.  This legislation was sponsored by the American Heart Association with funds raised by The Kids Heart Challenge!

Backfill and Cement floor prep

Backfill and Cement floor prep

We are back from our holiday break and our builders have been hard at work over the last month installing counterforts that help brace the foundation wall for all the dirt that we have backfilled along the perimeter. A waterproof membrane was also installed to protect the base of our new addition for decades to come.

Plumbing and Electrical

Rough plumbing for drains and electrical conduit have been installed and rebar placed along the entire area inside of the walls in preparation for the cement subfloor to be poured this Monday.
